Temperature/Humidity Testing
One potential problem that remains even with today's state-of-the-art pyroelectric
detectors is the generation of electrical noise in the presence of rapid changes in
ambient temperature. In actual installations, examples of this situation might include
cycling of air conditioning/heating systems or sunlight warming a wall.
To preclude the possibility of false alarms due to this type of noise, Ademco subjects
its PIRs to several countermeasures:
1. Ademco pyroelectric detectors are specified and designed to inhibit
noise at rates of temperature change up to 4ºC/min. (The industry standard for superior
PIRs is 0.5ºC/min.)
2. All Ademco PIR designs are submitted to the Quality Assurance
department for a rigorous Temperature/Humidity Test prior to release for sale. A large
number of the PIRs are rapidly cycled over the entire operating temperature range while a
95% humidity is maintained. Each unit is monitored for noise performance.
3. In production, Quality Control continually monitors the noise
performance of the pyroelectric detectors by repeating the Temperature/Humidity Test using
AQL sampling techniques.
4. 100% of all Ademco PIRs are tested for noise performance.
With all of these checks, you can be confident that Ademco PIRs will not false alarm
due to rapid changes in temperature.
